Granville’s influence extended beyond Nigeria’s borders, as he actively participated in esteemed legal bodies such as the Nigerian Bar Association. Here, he held the position of Chairman of the Port Harcourt branch from 2004 to 2006, exemplifying his enduring dedication to the profession, a commitment further underscored by his membership in the National Executive of the Association since 2004.

In addition to his legal practice, Granville was deeply invested in alternative dispute resolution. He served as the Secretary of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), Nigeria Branch (Port Harcourt Chapter) since 2006. His contributions to the growth and development of the Bar were invaluable, reflecting his deep-seated passion for the legal profession.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Granville was characterized by his warm, approachable, and caring nature. He was a devoted family man, blessed with a wife and three children. Granville’s love for travel and voracious reading habits were indicative of his insatiable curiosity and zest for knowledge.

Tragically, on 15th June 2020, the legal community lost a true luminary. Granville Isetima Abibo left an indelible mark on the legal landscape, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire aspiring legal professionals. Granville Isetima Abibo, SAN, KSC, was a distinguished legal luminary of exceptional caliber, known for his profound dedication to the legal profession. He commenced his legal journey at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he earned his LL.B Hons. Degree, following the successful completion of his Higher School Certificate. His induction to the Bar in 1985, marked by a remarkable 2nd Class Upper Division in his Bar finals at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, showcased his commitment to excellence.


In 1991, Granville founded the esteemed law firm Granville Abibo & Co., a testament to his vision and unwavering dedication to legal excellence. His pursuit of legal mastery led him to acquire an LL.M from the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Nigeria, in 1989, highlighting his relentless quest for knowledge.
Throughout his illustrious career, Granville was acclaimed for his expertise in Litigation and Appellate practice, Corporate and Commercial Law, and Criminal Law cases. The pinnacle of his achievements came in 2011, when he was conferred with the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, alongside the honor of being a Knight of Saint Christopher (KSC).
